Academic Program and Schedule (2025–2026)

St. Timothy Orthodox Christian Academy blends a classical curriculum with the restful learning philosophy of Scholé Academy, emphasizing depth over busyness, contemplation over cramming, and virtue formation alongside academic mastery. For the 2025–2026 school year we will operate Phase 1 of our hybrid model, introducing students to a robust program that pairs on‑campus instruction with live online courses.

The Scholé Approach

Our partnership with St. Raphael Online Academy (a house of studies within Scholé Academy) brings the benefit of experienced Orthodox instructors and Scholé’s guiding principles. Scholé—derived from the Greek word for leisurely learning—encourages students to engage deeply with fewer subjects at a time, relish discussion and reflection, and cultivate virtues such as humility, patience and joy. Liturgical learning imbues classes with prayer, chanting and attention to the Church calendar, reminding students that all knowledge is oriented toward God.

Schedule Overview

On‑Campus Days (2 half‑days per week):
Students attend two half‑day sessions each week at St. Timothy’s parish hall. These sessions focus on subjects that benefit from hands‑on instruction and group interaction:

  • Science and Nature Studies: Experiments, nature walks and lab work that foster wonder and curiosity.

  • History and Social Studies: Story‑based lessons exploring ancient civilizations, Church history and American heritage through a classical lens.

  • Faith Formation: Daily Bible class, catechesis and liturgical arts (prosphora baking, iconography, music).

  • Fine Arts and Practical Skills: Art, music theory, crafts, cooking, sewing and physical education.

  • Computer‑Aided Instruction (CAI): Adaptive practice using IXL.com to reinforce math, language arts, science and social studies skills.

At‑Home Days (2 days per week):
Students spend the remaining weekdays learning at home under parent supervision. During these days they connect with St. Raphael Online

Academy for live classes in:

  • English Language Arts: A year‑long course that integrates grammar, writing, literature and Orthodox Christian themes.

  • Mathematics: A comprehensive math course emphasizing conceptual understanding and problem‑solving.

Each course meets online at scheduled times and aligns with our restful learning philosophy. Because these courses are hosted by St. Raphael, families gain access to high‑quality instruction without sacrificing flexibility; classes are recorded for later viewing when necessary.

Academic Calendar

The 2025–2026 academic year begins with orientation in late August, followed by classes starting after Labor Day. We observe the Orthodox liturgical calendar, pausing instruction during Holy Week and Bright Week. Holidays and breaks align with major feasts rather than secular holidays, and Fridays are reserved for enrichment activities, field trips or service projects.

This structure allows our students to experience the best of both worlds: the community and mentorship of on‑campus learning and the focused, restful engagement of Scholé’s online courses. We are excited to embark on this journey with our inaugural class and look forward to cultivating wisdom, virtue, faith and service in each child.
